JVDS Management Policy
With a managed server, you get the equivalent of a systems administrator. We can quite happily do anything you ask us to do on the base system (The pre-install os we supply) - from setting up websites to configuring your email server. We will also pro-actively patch critical security issues such as root exploits on all the software we install for you.
For software where there are updates that only add additional functionality, we will not pro-actively upgrade them. However, you may ask us to upgrade them if you need the newer version or would just feel more comfortable with it.
On a managed server, you get full root access along with us. We use a normal user account plus sudo to get root access which doesn't require us from having to know your root password. All we ask is that if you install software, you inform us so that we can keep a track of what is installed. This is to avoid conflicts later down the line.
If you do install extra software, we will do our best to support you in its usage and installation. However, it may take us longer to resolve problems that arise from them. We also make no guarantees of being able to fix problems of those extra software.
Please note that this policy does not cover help with any sort of debugging code unless it can be proven that something in the base os may need upgrading.
We will provide managment of an average of five (5) hours per month over a rolling three (3) month period. This rolling average is to allow us to get your server configured without you having to worry about excess charges. Outside of this time, we reserve the right to charge $25.00 per hour with a thirty (30) minute minimum charge.
